Sexual Violence Against Asian/Pacific Islander Women

  • 9% of A/PI women experienced some form of contact sexual violence during their lifetime[1]
  • 5% of A/PI women experienced rape during their lifetime[2]
  • 4% of A/PI women experienced non-contact unwanted sexual experiences during their lifetime[3]
  • 6% of A/PI women reported experiencing rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime[4]
  • All Asian-American respondents who said they had been assaulted believed the experience happened because of prejudice toward race or ethnicity[5]
  • 9% of A/PI women experienced at least one act of sexual violence in their lifetime[6]

Sexual Violence Against Asian/Pacific Islander Men

  • Among a national sample of A/PI men who have sex with men in the United States, 40.8% have experienced sexual battering in the past 5 years[7]
  • 4% of A/PI men experienced some form of contact seuxal violence in their lifetime[8]
  • 4% of A/PI men experienced non-contact unwanted sexual experiences during their lifetime[9]
  • 1% of Asian men reported having ever experienced at least one type of physical or sexual violence[10]

Sexual Violence in Specific Communities

  • 9% of Japanese immigrant and Japanese American women report experiencing sexual violence at the hands of an intimate partner during their lifetime[11]
  • 22% of a convenience sample of Korean women in Chicago reported sexual violence by an intimate partner at some point in their lives[12]
  • 8% of a convenience sample of South Asian women who were married or in a heterosexual relationship reported having experienced partners’ sexual abuse[13]
