2012 was truly a year of survival. DVRP continued its tradition of dedicated service to Asian/Pacific Islander (A/PI) survivors of domestic violence in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, serving 159 survivors, despite funding cuts. This was a record high in DVRP's 17 year history and over a 100% increase from 2011. Please refer to our 2012 Annual Report to learn more. |

For the past 16 years, DVRP has been working in local Asian/Pacific Islander (A/PI) communities to raise awareness of the problems of domestic violence and to empower the survivors whose very choices, over time, have been silenced by their abusers. We have worked to ensure that we never forget the courage of these strong individuals who stood up and said that they deserved a healthier relationship.
For 2011, the primary ethnicities served included: Japanese (15%), Indian (14%), Chinese (12.5%), Filipino (10%), Bangladeshi (7%), Korean (7%), Pakistani (7%) and Thai (7%). To read more of our Annual Report, click here.

“I have dealt with issues that have emotionally overwhelmed me, where I was nearly killed and where there was possible sexual abuse of my son. DVRP listened patiently and helped me untangle the dark web I was trapped in and finally after a year of constant gentle support, I feel I am coming out of a really dark period in my life back into light.” – Survivor
October is Domestic Violence (DV) Awareness month. The A/PI Institute on DV reports that 41-60% of Asian/Pacific Islander women will survive domestic violence in their lifetimes. DVRP provides direct services to survivors, enabling them to stay safe, to restore dignity and ultimately, to regain control of their lives.
Support survivors today by making a contribution to DVRP.

Keep the Lights On Campaign |

After 16 years of helping survivors of domestic violence our work is threatened due to one simple problem: severely limited funding for operational expenses such as rent and utilities. While DVRP’s current grant funding enables us to fully fund all of the direct services we provide to our clients, these grants are restricted in large part to non-overhead items like survivor services and staff payroll.
DVRP’s Keep the Lights On Campaign is a pledge—on behalf of all of us at DVRP—to continue to work our hearts out if we can avoid doing so in the dark. We recently lowered our monthly rent by 33% by moving into a new office space, but we still need private support to help cover this basic but essential expense. Each $40 donated guarantees another day the lights are kept on over the heads of DVRP’s dedicated staff and volunteers, and by extension the heads of the hundreds of women in the DC metro area who depend on us.
Please show DVRP your support with the knowledge that every dollar given directly contributes to our ability to provide direct services and support to A/PI survivors of domestic violence. Please make a tax deductible donation today. |
